Elk River is gearing up for its 2nd Annual Active Youth Day presented by Spectrum High School and Elk River Parks and Recreation!

This event was established to promote healthy and active lifestyles in the children and youth in our community.

2nd Annual Active Youth Day will take place Saturday, May 15, 2010, from 1pm – 5pm on the athletic fields adjacent to Salk Middle School on 11970 Highland Road in Elk River.

We started this event last year, and based on the feedback we received from last year’s participants, vendors, participating organizations, and volunteers, it was successful. All felt this event was a great addition to our community.

Events include a 40-foot rock climbing wall, a 65-foot inflatable obstacle course, a punt-pass-kick challenge, a basketball shoot-out challenge, tennis games and demonstrations from a local tennis professional, karate hands-on demonstrations, a golf clinic by a local golf instructor, a disc golf clinic by a local disc golf professional, and a youth fitness boot camp put on by YMCA. In addition to these events, there will be music and prizes.

An exciting addition to this year's Active Youth Day is our partnerships with everyone's favorite Minnesota professional sports teams: the Vikings, the Twins, and the Lynx! We will be raffling off exciting donations from these teams: an autographed photo of the Vikings Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin, a commemorative autographed photo of Twins Hall-of-Famer Rod Carew, and two Lynx tickets valued at $100! All raffle proceeds go to Active Youth Day so we continually promote active and healthy living in our community.

Come out, bring the family, and be ready to have fun at an event that will jump-start your summer! For more information, please contact Spectrum High School at 763-241-8703 ext. 315
