Greetings from Camp Buckskin! We are a traditional overnight summer camp working with children with social skill and academic needs. We are located in the Superior National Forest in Northern Minnesota near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Ely, MN. We've served over 8 000 young people during our past 50 summers.
Since 1959, Camp Buckskin has been serving campers with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, and Aspersers to help them achieve greater success in their lives.
Counselor in Training / Kitchen Assistant
Counselors in Training/Kitchen Assistants have two main areas of responsibilities:
Counselors in Training: CITs assist the counselors in teaching one of our main activities that you are most interested in (Archery/Riflery, Arts and Crafts, Canoeing, Nature Studies, Swimming, Reading). CITs are also assigned to help with a specific cabin which includes reading a bed time story to that cabin each evening.
Kitchen Assistant: As a KA you would assist the head cook and assistant cook in the overall preparation and serving of the meals and clean up of the kitchen after meal times. Duties include following all established health standards and regulations, assisting with some food preparation, serving food on schedule, washing and putting away dishes, cleaning counters, and mopping the floor.
Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old and a positive role model for our campers. Needs to be able to work well with others and efficiently complete tasks independently as well. Applicants need to have an interest and desire to work with children and adolescents who have social skill and academic needs.
We offer compensation + room/board for the summer! Compensation is based on prior experience plus certifications.
