Greetings from Camp Buckskin! We are a traditional overnight summer camp working with children with social skill and academic needs. We are located in the Superior National Forest in Northern Minnesota near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Ely, MN. We've served over 8 000 young people during our past 50 summers.

Excellent opportunity for those who want to further their own professional development, especially for those interested in careers in psychology, social work, education, health care, or one of the helping fields.

Since 1959, Camp Buckskin has been serving campers with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, and Aspersers to help them achieve greater success in their lives.

Counselor / Activity Instructor

Position Description:

Counselors/Activity Instructors have two main areas of responsibilities:

Counselor: The duties of a counselor include supervising the campers' daily routine, teaching campers appropriate social skills, providing positive reinforcement, managing their behaviors, general guidance, tracking social skill goals, and evaluating campers throughout the session. Counselors must be able to work collaboratively with other staff members to accomplish program objectives as well as communicate and report needs to the program supervisors.

Activity Instructor: As an activity instructor you work with other staff to assist in teaching one of the six main daily activities. These activities include swimming, canoeing, nature/environmental studies, archery/riflery, and arts and crafts. Instructors help teach three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. Activities are taught in both small and large groups. Instruction starts with the basic skills of each activity and progresses to more advanced levels. Staff provides the campers with effective instruction, positive reinforcement and the encouragement to progress to more challenging skills.

Qualifications: At least 19 years of age or have completed first year of college. You must have an interest and desire to work with children and adolescents who have social skill and learning needs. You must be a positive adult role model for our campers with a willingness to work as part of a team. Preferred certifications: current CPR and First Aid.

We offer compensation + room/board for the summer! Compensation is based on prior experience plus certifications.

We look forward to hearing from you!
