The Star Theatre is currently seeking a Technical Director/Resident Designer with experience in theatrical production and design and facility operations. The candidate selected for this position will have the opportunity to assist in leading a committed organization to its highest potential level.

The candidate easily adapts to changing assignments, is team oriented, possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, and has the ability to meet deadlines while caring about the details.

Responsibilities of the Technical Director/Resident Designer include:

• Organizing and supervising the execution of all designs by meeting deadlines and working to achieve aesthetic goals for each production.
• Staying educated on the best technical theatre practices, including demonstrating knowledge of rigging, basic sound engineering, set construction, knots, lighting, props construction, etc., and, if need be, finding the educational tools to learn these practices.
• Overseeing designs for all productions, including scenic, lighting, sound, and props.
• Assisting with the preparation and administration of production budgets, and creating and/or sustaining revenue-generating programs, e.g., equipment rental.
• Overseeing maintenance of the facility.
• Leading volunteers in areas of production and facility maintenance.
• Interfacing effectively with the artistic and civic community and serving as a positive promoter of the Theatre.
• Demonstrating strong communication skills.
• Respecting and promoting the process, as well as the final product.

• Three years experience working in technical theatre OR bachelor’s degree in theatre
• Ability to create set models or renderings, drawings, and plots in a timely fashion
• Ability to be flexible with volunteers, resources, and facility needs
• Excellent time management skills
• Desire for personal and professional growth
