This position is responsible for program's direct contact with adolescent and teenage youths and their parents/legal guardians, case managers, Portland public schools, and other support services. The position will outreach into the Eastern European community to enroll students attending middle and high school for mentoring services. Position must maintain case files. This is an entry level position at a nonprofit agency; salary is based on qualifications/experience. Position is hourly, nonexempt, 15 hours per week. EMAIL COVER LETTER AND RESUME TO APPLY.
Ideal candidate has at least an Associate Degree/Diploma from a U.S. institution or currently working toward an Associate Degree/Diploma at a U.S. institution. Candidate must have attended and completed U.S. high school.
Must enjoy working with and advocate for children and youths (12-18 years old) from target population (Portland's Eastern European community). Must be culturally competent to work with families from target population and other groups in a multicultural environment. Must be proactive in initiating client recruitment and retention activities. Able to balance multiple responsibilities and expectations and work without constant supervision. Must be punctual, willing, and able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Must be fluent in Russian. Another Eastern European language a plus, not a must. Must have excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. Must be computer literate; able to use Microsoft Word (knowledge of other computer programs a plus). Able to work cooperatively with school personnel, service providers, and agency/program staffs. Must pass agency criminal history background check. Must be approved by agency insurance company to transport clients.
