With our economic downturn, there is a drastic increase in the number of children who go to bed hungry at night in the State of Washington.
Local food banks across the country have been running several programs targeted for at-risk children, including a “backpack” program for public school students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. The Backpack Program provides hungry children with food to take home over the weekends and out-of-school times. Backpacks are filled with nutritious, child-friendly, easy-to-prepare foods which are then discreetly distributed to children on Friday or the last day before a holiday vacation.
A "pilot" Backpack Program called Li'l Hungry Hearts" is being started for a local school in Lake Stevens to help some of these at-risk children.
We are asking our generous community to help us with this much needed program by "TAKING A BITE OUT OF CHILDHOOD HUNGER!"
****Li'l Hungry Hearts is supported by cash donations and sponsorships from our community. If you are interested in making a difference in the life of a hungry child by being a donor or sponsor please contact us.
