A New Mission for Military Veterans

Opportunity: Veterans! Are you ready to work in America's great outdoors? Veterans Green Corps is a conservation program currently searching for military veterans with leadership experience to manage conservation crews, and veteran corps members to work in small veteran teams conducting critical conservation work in some of the countryís most beautiful areas. Crews work and camp for extended periods in the back country and involve hours of physical labor and hiking with equipment. Veterans Green Corps is a division of Veterans Green Jobs, a 501 3c nonpartisan nonprofit focused on training and placing veterans in green jobs focused on environmental and national security.

Veterans Green Corps offers an opportunity to work with your hands on national Public Lands with a group of veterans that understands the military experience. The work is a rewarding experience that will be memorable and unique. Participants do receive a small weekly salary to compliment the strong skills building and leadership development that builds on a veteranís military experience.

The program hires any service veteran or member of the Army or Air National Guard or any Reserve Component and focuses on the transition from service in the military to service to public lands and local communities. Education and training will concentrate on gaining conservation skills and career development services for veterans interested in pursuing further employment opportunities with land management. Any individual that successfully completes this program will have the opportunity to continue working in the conservation field or move onto into other opportunities focused on developing skills needed for employment in the rapidly emerging green jobs field.

Other benefits: Many of the opportunities offer free certification in a variety of skills, from chainsaw operation and safety, to wild-land fire fighting. Some programs reward participants with education scholarships and career placement assistance after program completion.

Projects May Include: Trail building and maintenance, exotic species removal, forest thinning, habitat restoration, fence building, erosion control, fire rehabilitation.

Location: Projects will be located in Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico, with possibilities for projects in Nevada and Utah.

When: Projects will have rolling start dates beginning in April and ending in August. Most projects last eight to ten weeks.
