Title: Application Developer 3 Location: Redmond, Washington
The Finance Team is seeking a developer with both strong reporting and tool development experience/skills who is able to show as much passion towards supporting existing tools and new development projects. We are a small team that supports several tools as well as OLAP and Data warehousing BI. The majority of the responsibilities/time for this position will be on existing tool support and modification. Specifically, 1) modifications and support of an existing account management tool in preparation for the next fiscal year planning process and 2) quota setting tool used for planning for the next fiscal year. The team that supports these efforts is small with each of the projects/tools typically supported by a PM and one – two devs.
Existing Tool Modification and Support (majority of the responsibility) The Account Management Tool is used by our business partners (approx 100+ users) for several weeks each year to manage assignment of accounts within segments, territories, and parent account structure. Likewise, the Quota Setting Tool is used by our business partners (approx 100+ users) for several weeks each year to land their quota by taking high level quota assignment and allocating out at a lower level like territory and account. In preparation, the tool must be modified to support the changing business needs as well as address any outstanding functionality issues from the prior year. The tool was built using EXCEL with VBA for the UI and a SQL DB as the backend. This role will be responsible for the database (tsql, stored procedures, ssis) and reporting (SSRS, SSAS cube, MDX) components of the tool. In addition to modifying the tool (SQL and reporting changes), you will be responsible for assisting with support during the limited time the tool is being used.
1. Partners with program manager to identify requirements, identify and evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions. 2. Actively participates as a team member on project team. 3. Modify existing DB schemas, stored procedures, etc as required to support business needs. 4. Design and develop required reporting using SSRS and if required building cubes for reporting 5. Contribute to development methodologies and best practices. 6. Cross group collaborative work with other Finance groups. 7. Support Testing efforts (integration testing and UAT) 8. Work with PM to provide end user support during period when tool is being used. 9. Author required technical and support documentation
New Reporting Efforts (minority of job)
1. Partners with program manager to identify requirements, identify and evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions. 2. Actively participates as a team member on project team 3. Architect, design, and develop (based off of BRD) multi-dimensional schemas and SSRS/SSAS reporting systems for internal partners. 4. Contribute to development methodologies and best practices. 5. Cross group collaborative work with other Finance groups. 6. Active participation in technical investigations and prototyping. 7. Makes recommendations to improve business workflow efficiency and information access as well as provide education on the benefits and limitations of technology solutions. 8. Ensure data accuracy and reliability. 9. Author required technical and support documentation
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with +5 years experience of software development, or equivalent combination. • Strong SSAS 2005/2008, MDX programming, MS SQL 2005/2008 (SSIS, T-SQL, stored procedures) • Background in database and cube design is required • Database architecture, design, implementation, and operations experience focusing on Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 • Data modeling and Data Transformation and Loading (ETL) • Data Warehouse schema design experience required • Experience with Business Intelligence applications • Strong background in performance analysis skills on OLAP applications including design and tuning of cubes • Identifying and implementing best practices. • Whole problem solver, implements solutions to solve root cause problems. Strong analytically. • Potential need exists to work overtime, including some weekend and hours outside the normal work day. • Exhibits an ability to take proactive and strategic approaches to projects. • Ability to focus on assigned tasks, keep work prioritized to meet deadlines. • Ability to work professionally and effectively within the team and across departments
