Guitar instructor available for private or group lessons
Nathan Montgomery is currently taking new students for guitar and bass lessons. He is available to teach from your house, his studio in Ferndale or from Gus Zoppi Music Center located in Sterling Heights (17 mile and Dequindre).
Methods, styles, or genres include but are not limited to:
Guitar: Jazz, Rock, Blues, Classical, Metal, and Percussive Acoustic guitar.
Bass: rock, blues, funk, slap, and jazz.
Over the past 20 years of teaching private lessons, groups and high school class rooms, Nathan has encountered many different learning styles across a wide range of ages (from 4-65 years old). He has also taught many students struggling with learning challenges including autism and ADD/ADHD with great success. Thru this experience he has learned to customize each lesson with unique language and techniques to accommodate the students optimal learning style. Nathan's extensive background with secondary education allows him to quickly assess the student's strengths so that information can be learned and practiced with ease. Students are motivated by presenting lessons in an understandable and enjoyable way to afford the student the luxury of comprehending within their own comfort zone.

Lessons from your home depending on the location will start at $30 per half hour, from his home studio in Ferndale start at $25 per half hour and lessons from Gus Zoppi's Music Center start at $20 per half hour.

Nathan started playing guitar with the inspiration and guidance from his Dad at the age of 9. Since then he has participated in numerous school band programs ranging from elementary to high school. After years of practice, and awarded a full scholarship, Nathan attended Wayne State University, graduating in 2002, with a bachelors in Jazz Performance.
Nathan has been teaching private lessons since 1990 including 13 years at Gus Zoppi music center in Sterling Heights.
Nathan was the director of the guitar program at Arts Academy in the Woods high school from 2003-2010. AAW is a tuition free public high school located in Fraser, MI.
Nathan has released two solo instrumental cd's, For Your Ears Only in 2005, 2-5 Jive in 2006 and has a third CD in the works. His passionate and aggressive style of playing that makes every performance musically and visually brilliant! Influenced by an array of musicians, he has fused many styles including blues, funk, jazz, rock, and fingerstyle to create an original sound. The music is polyphonic; including melody, harmonic progressions, bass lines, as well as percussion all performed simultaneously.
Also, Nathan has been a member of 7 Million Jigawatts since Feb 07. 7MJ delivers high energy danceable performances to the tune of current pop chart toppers, Rock and R&B hits spanning five decades, and catchy originals. The four diverse members forge a unique blend of Rock and Soul unique to Detroit and 7 Million Jigawatts including but not limited to the influence of Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Queen, Jane’s Addiction, Aretha Franklin and the White Stripes.
He also plays with several other projects including 45th parallel (acoustic pop duo), The Nathan Montgomery Trio (jazz), Saoco (Latin Jazz), The Melissa Behring Project (vocal jazz), and others.
